HDC Community Governance Review

12 June 2026

Dear Residents

Horsham District Council is currently running a consultation across the district, as they are looking at the potential to re-organise the Local Parishes.

Thakeham Parish Council has opposed this exercise since it's inception earlier this year, as we are happy with Thakeham Parish and see no need - especially in light of the upcoming changes to Districts and County - in trying to alter our boundaries, name or potentially trying to merge us with other Parishes.

Thakeham Parish Council's boundaries have been established over hundreds of years and there is a lot of historical and cultural importance to our location and identity and having this impacted by the District Council - tinkering with wards and boundaries just prior to elections next year - is something we feel is not warranted.

HDC have issued a questionnaire that it wishes the public to complete so you can have some input. The questionnaire can be found by clicking this link:

Thakeham Parish Council have answered this questionnaire and made representation to HDC. You can view our answers here:

Thakeham PC Answers and Rationale to Community Governance Review 2026

Thakeham Parish Council are asking you - our residents - to help preserve our Parish boundaries, identity and our ability to act for ourselves and use our funds from development for our benefit and not have any of these allocated elsewhere. As of writing - other nearby Parishes have expressed an interest in trying to carve off slivers of our Parish Boundaries and we feel this is unacceptable and need support to send the message back to HDC.

The way which you can do this is to complete the questionnaire. The more voices that speak out - the harder it will be for HDC to re-organise us. There are only six questions with Yes and No answers. It will take you less than a couple of minutes to complete.

We have made paper copies available at the Village Hall if anyone has issues accessing the online form.

The closing date is June 22nd - so canwe please have one last push before closing. I thank everyone so far who has completed the questionnaire and Thakeham Parish Council thanks you in advance, for all your support in this matter.

Kind regards

Andrew
